Project Information:

  • Height: 7 inches (w/o pom-pom)
  • Estimated Completion Time: 2 hours (including pom-pom)

Materials Utilized:

  • Yarn:
    • Yarn Bee Mini Maker (Weight 4/1.05 oz/65 yd)
    • Lion Brand DIYarn (Weight 4/1.05 ox/65 yd)
    • One skein should suffice if working the pattern as written.
  • Hook Size: G (4 mm) & F (3.75 mm)
  • Tapestry needle of choice
  • Scissors (vital for pom-pom)

Notes:

  • Slipstitch (slst) does not count as a stitch throughout pattern.
  • The brim is worked with a smaller hook size though this is optional.
  • The pattern is written with US abbreviations.
  • I typically disregard gauges which is why I have not bothered to include one.

Stitch Abbreviations:

  • Slst(s) – slipstitch
  • Ch – chain
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Hdc – half double crochet
  • Dc – double crochet
  • Tr – triple crochet
  • FLO – front loop only
  • BLO – back loop only

Begin with a magic circle.

Round 1: Ch2. 6 dc into magic circle. Join with slst to first dc. (6 dc)

Rounds 2-3: Ch2. 2 dc in first dc from hook and into each dc around. Join with slst to first dc. (12 dc, 24 dc)

Round 4-5: Ch2. 2 dc in first dc from hook. Dc in next dc. *2 dc in next dc. Dc in next dc. Repeat from * to last dc. Join with slst to first dc. (36 dc, 54 dc)

Rounds 6-7: Ch1. Hdc into first dc from hook and into each dc around. Join with slst to first hdc. (54 hdc)

Rounds 8-9: Ch2. FLO dc into the first hdc from hook. BLO dc into the next hdc. *FLO dc, BLO dc. Repeat from * to last hdc. Join with slst to first dc. (27 FLO dc, 27 BLO dc)

Rounds 10-11: Ch1. FLO hdc in the first dc. BLO hdc into the next dc. *FLO hdc, BLO hdc. Repeat from * to last dc. Join with slst to first hdc. (27 FLO hdc, 27 BLO hdc)

Round 12: Ch1. Sc into first hdc from hook. Hdc into second hdc of round. Dc into third hdc of round. Tr into fourth hdc of round. Dc into fifth hdc of round. Hdc into sixth hdc of round. Sc into seventh hdc of round. *Sc into next hdc. Hdc into next hdc. Dc into next hdc. Tr into next hdc. Dc into next hdc. Hdc into next hdc. Sc into next hdc. Repeat from * to last hdc. Join with slst to first sc. (9 sc, 18 hdc, 18 dc, 9 tr)

Round 13: Ch3. Tr into first sc from hook. Dc into next hdc. Hdc into next dc. Sc in next tr. Hdc into next dc. Dc into next hdc. *Tr into sc. Dc into hdc. Hdc into dc. Sc in tr. Hdc into dc. Dc into hdc. Repeat from * to last tr. Join with slst to first tr. (9 sc, 18 hdc, 18 dc, 9 tr)

Rounds 14-15: Ch1. FLO hdc into tr. BLO hdc into dc. *FLO hdc in next stitch. BLO hdc in next stitch. Repeat from * to last tr. Join with slst to first tr. (27 FLO hdc, 27 BLO hdc)

Round 16: Ch1. FLO sc in first hdc from hook. BLO sc in the next hdc. *FLO sc in next hdc. BLO sc in next hdc. Repeat from * to last hdc. Join with slst to top of first hdc. (27 FLO sc, 27 BLO sc)

Brim: Decrease to a size F hook and then work Rounds 17 & 18.

Round 17: Ch1. BLO sc in first sc from hook and into each sc around. Join with slst to first sc. (54 sc)

For Tighter Brim (smaller head size):

Round 18: ch1. Slst in first sc and in each sc around. Join with a slst to the top of first slst (54 sc)

For Looser Brim (larger head size):

Round 18: Ch1. Sc into first sc and into each sc around. Join with slst to top of first sc. (54 sc)

For Longer Brim:

Round 19: Ch1. BLO sc into first sc and into each sc around. (54 BLO sc)
